Archive 🗃 – #MUSICREVIEW: Music (Old vs. New) 🎶🎵

2017👇🏾

Over this past year, I’ve been examining the music that we consumed on a regular basis. I’ve realised there are a couple of similarities and differences between them and I’d like to discuss them in this post. After listening to a couple of older tracks on YouTube. I came to a conclusion the reason why old songs are still popular is that they were sacred before the age of technology came in. It is easily accessible to find songs, with the help of the internet. We have the opportunity of App stores which allow us to download and stream music, as well specific websites that provide the visual content for our entertainment.

Let’s backtrack to the 80s or a brief period before that.. I was watching a video of Dead or Alive’s well-known single You Spin Me Right Round. I could hear the rawness of the materials, it’s like all the little parts of the instruments come together to produce one cohesive sound. It reminded me of jingle bells and you can imagine people in 80s roller-skate disco moving to it as they go around the rink in a circular motion. Anyways on topic, it came to me the success of hits back then was the fact songs were original.

2018👇🏾

The two paragraphs above were written sometime last year. I never got to post it, because it was incomplete so I’m releasing it today for you guys to read.

Fast forward to modern day music👇🏾⏩

It came to my attention yesterday that there seems to be an issue with Drill Music and how it encourages violent. I can understand why people would support this case because the frequency of the music can affect the brain. Also, the language and words rapped over the beats can pressure people to act out in inappropriate ways. However, to view it in another way, it can be argued the listeners who consume the music have a mind of their own, so therefore they are in charge of their own actions, so the genre can’t be blamed for deviant behaviour.

In this current day, most beats are made on a laptop using computer programmes such as Fruity Loop or the more advanced Logic Pro editions. One advantage is making music is more accessible and can be done from any location. You can produce more with less and still create a variety. It’s reduced certain aspects of the process, such as instrument hire costs, studio time and excess musicians. However, a con could be many producers can end up producing similar beats unless they have their own distinctive style and touch in their sound.

Music is a great way of experimentation and expression because it allows you to have sounds to cater to every and any occasion or mood. It is also quite fluid to, most genres can be integrated together. So, therefore some overlap in terms of sounds and how they are received by its listeners. We will have to see how music continues to progress in the upcoming future because it is consistently developing and changing.

I’m just going to finish this post with a food for thought, ponder on the question below.

How do you think music has changed over the years?

Photographic Dimension: Bournemouth, Dorset 📷🏖🇬🇧

Hi back again👋🏾,

I got a couple of landscape photographs to share. These were taken at Bournemouth beach, which is situated in southern England. When you’re on the coast, you’re near the beginning of Europe; with only the sea acting as a boundary between the two. It’s weird to think of it from that angle but that’s basically what it is.

The Post During The Coast ☕️🚶🏾‍♀️

There is no real reason for this post, other than the fact I haven’t uploaded one in a while.

I just suddenly had the urge to write something (I got inspired too by reading someone’s post I came across not long ago).

There is no direction I’m going in this one🤔.

The title basically describe the basics, I’ll break it down for you. When you’re by the coast, you are idle and surrounded by very little. So, therefore you have the time to think and explore your thoughts. Similar to this current moment, I hope the analogy sounded okay for you guys reading this.

However, I will be releasing a post on Wednesday. I haven’t decided on a time yet but it will be likely to be in the evening or during the day☺️

Thank you for taking time to read this post & watch out for the next one😉

#Photography: Recently Regent 🌎🍃🌳

*Google searches locations in London*… RESULTS

Get the rough idea of where you want to go and let Google do the rest. That’s the first start of the plan. The other part includes travel (transportation and mobile device) for directions. You’ll need to get all of that in order so it runs smoothly.

I’ve noticed I’ve been doing a lot more photography recently. I think that’s because there were many good locations, which are picture worthy. You are able to capture everything at that moment. Everything seems so still as if to say everything has stopped in time. Usually, you’d understand it does not work like that. There are people walking around or obstructions in the background. Especially if its a public park and at peak time, it all depends when you go.

It also allows you to see how it all fits together in one frame, working with grids as guidelines.

Here are two photographs I took on Tuesday the 7th of May 2018; check them out below:

#Photography: Featured Landscape Focus 🗾📸

Hi,

I’ll be sharing a couple of photographs I’ve taken.

I am one of those people who enjoys seeing a good view because it’s pleasing to the eye and brings a certain type of peace to the mind. The ambient sounds contribute to the experience as well.

It has been recorded appealing scenery has many positive benefits for the mind, body and soul. It provides a refreshed feeling because your main focus is observing everything around you. It is a lot to take in at once, so it gives you the chance to explore.

I’d recommend taking time out of your schedule just to appreciate the good surroundings around you.

Relax Reviving Recognition 📝⏰💆🏾‍♀️

Date entry: Thursday the 26th of April 2018

Edited: Friday the 27th of April 2018

This is short random one, but please proceed below to read on 👇🏾

I haven’t wrote a post in timeeee, so I thought I’d type this one to make up for lost time. This post isn’t really going to have a specific direction or topic, it’s more of a free space to say whatever you like.

“Do you think it’s normal to miss creating new posts or? (leave your comment below).”

This is a good question for bloggers because it is something you’d do frequently. If not, regularly so taking an extended break may make things different.

I guess it gives you a chance to think of new topics or just to have time not to work too hard constantly thinking of ways to come up with new things. It’s beneficial to either take a break ( don’t forget the kit kat😅) and relax.

This can put you in an idle place. It’s similar to being on an island surrounded by nothing but water. You’re set in a routine, once that’s removed there’s plenty of room to roam (in this case mind wise💆🏾‍♀️).

Thank you for reading this post & stay tuned for more coming in the future ☺️

Stay blessed🙌🏾Chanda D

#Photography: The Sunny Stroll – Flowery Style ☀️💐📷

Hi🙋🏾‍♀️

When the sun’s out, it’s always time to take advantage of the good weather especially in England. As the weather is ever-changing, it might be sunny today but rain in an hour or the next day. So, I went out and did a bit of nature photography. Plus, flowers have started growing back too.

It’s also good for you to get the time out in the sun. It has many benefits for you, for example, it provides us with vitamin D and it creates a sense of overall calmness. It feels nice to feel the rays on your skin😍

The images were taken at Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Here’s a slideshow of the pictures taken:

Simple At-Home Manicure: Gel Polish 💅🏾

Date entry: Tuesday the 17th of April 2018

Edited: Wednesday the 18th of April 2018

Hi💁🏾‍♀️

Yesterday afternoon I gave myself a simple manicure, which can be done in the comfort of your own home.

The products used in this look were from the Rimmel London collection. Two colours: Ora-ngy vibe + Danny Boy Blue were used in this making.

The whole process will take you no longer than 45mins. This includes cuticle wash + cut, cuticle oil and paint. It’s quite therapeutic because it requires a level of concentration to make sure you don’t go over your nail bed.

It’s also a good way to save money too, so you stay comfortably knowing you recreated the same experience at home.

All you need is base and gel top coat, your favourite choice of colour, cuticle oil, cuticle remover, a clipper (to cut the cuticles and a nail file set.

] ]

After you’ve completed the polish, use hand cream and cuticle oil, this will help improve the conditions of hands and nails. Aim to repeat this routine every day for maintenance. You should see a change in the texture of your hands over a period of time (don’t expect instant changes lol, it takes time and patience).

Life Skills 101

I came up with this idea in the bathroom after I had a thought about growing up. As we’ve grown up, we have to learn how to do adult things. Even the minor stuff can seem to be a big thing because it’s something we haven’t done before. Automatically, as our parent/s have always done it for us. It can be so little but you realise after a while, how much of a difference it made in your life. This is when you had minimal responsibilities to take care of.

Below, I will be listing a couple of life skills I’ve learnt or observed along the way + hopefully, they will be of help to you in one way or another:

  • Teeth Brushing: you’ll need to change your toothbrush often. How you will know your brush needs changing if the bristles are not as effective as they once were. Usually, it goes spiky and leans out to the side; that is a major sign you need to buy a new one. Also, purchasing a firm brush over a medium or soft will do more, as it has greater strength to remove any excess build up of dirt and give your teeth overall a better clean. It will leave with better satisfaction, knowing its got up all in there. Electric ones are a good investment, so are Listerine Reach ones too.
  • Food Shopping: Either your mum or dad has been the main culprit of providing food in the house for you to eat right? Have you ever thought about doing a food shop for yourself? You may find as you get older, your taste changes. You want to branch out a try new things and find yourself not liking stuff you were once into as a child. Food shop is a good opportunity to test out a little independence. You don’t have to spend loads of money, set yourself a rough budget + see where the shop takes you.
  • Bills: Bills is a proper adult thing when you come to think of it. When you were younger, you were no way in any form thinking about that. Until you get to an age where you want the latest phone, so, therefore, you take out a contract. Or getting your first car, which requires high maintenance on a constant basis. The money is coming out of your hard earnings, adds to your adult boost.
  • Routine: It gives you a structured day, you can change it when and if it permits to do so. However, having a basic daily routine might make things easier for you in general. It gives you a well-rounded day of expectations. Or allows you to plan around (especially with work & meals). It can also make you feel comfortable, but everything is going as it should.
  • Expansion: I’ve spoken on doing new things before in the previous posts. It is great for your senses and your overall outlook on life. In some circumstances, you’ve been used to what you know. So, in this instance, expand out of your usual and do something different. It is up to you what you decide to do, just make sure you branch out into the unknown. Your body and brain will reward you, for teaching or letting you experience new things.

#FilmReview: Black Panther🐅

Date entry: Monday the 26th of March 2018

Edited: Thursday the 29th of March 2018

The Black Panther Squad

(I finally got round to watching the film, after feeling I was missing out. I decided to go watch it. Prior to the screening, I had seen reference to the word ‘Wakanda’. I did not know what people were on about, but obviously, now I do. All the pieces fit together now, so there’s a better image.)

The film is an action movie, with the duration lasting 2 hours and 13 minutes long and is available at most cinemas to watch. I’d recommend going during the day, where not many people are there. It frees your surrounding environment for you to relax and view it calmly. At certain points of the film, I heard a drill type beat. It got me bopping my head when it came on. It didn’t fully go into it, but it was enough to energise you during its segments.

It was a female-dominated movie, which I liked because it showed women to be strong characters. Usually, you would see girls in a role, where they are a damsel in distress or in a weak position. However it was different, they were able to defend themselves and others. It produced an instilling belief they are just as capable as men.

I’m going to go slightly of topic here because this will apply to the paragraph above.

Gender roles in society are segregated in terms of what males and females are supposed to do. Traditionally, for example, women are expected to fulfil housework duties. Whilst men are out being breadwinners. In today’s society, the roles have slightly, if not, fully merged. Women are now being pro-active about being able to provide for themselves, as well being able to still complete household duties. Men are not as heavily depended on as they once were in the past.

Back on the topic of Black Panther

Similarly, the women were strongly defending their rights and what they thought was right for their Kingdom – Wakanda. This was portrayed through their battle scenes and dealing with the problematic situation between the rivalling kings.

I don’t know if anyone of you is familiar with the TV series Top Boy, but one of the characters Letitia Wright (Shuri) featured in this film. It was nice to see her transition from British film to bigger productions. I remember her character well on Top Boy, but her acting was really pleasing to watch.

She had a few one-liners, which makes me laugh. It was cheeky, but humorous to watch. It helps lighten up the film, despite its darker context. Also, it starred four other well-known actors/actresses – Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Michael B Jordan (Erik), Angela Bassett (Ramonda) and Forest Whittaker. They all played their roles equally well, with the strong intention to bring their own influence into their characters. It was a blend of American and East African accent that showed diversity.

Overall, I enjoyed the film because it kept me engaged. It was hard to take your eyes away from the screen. Just in case you missed out on something. You couldn’t even excuse yourself to go to the bathroom because it all needed to make sense in one go. I guess that’s why action movies are so popular, as it provides high-level entertainment and requires brain stimulation to keep its viewers seated. It was similar to Lord of Rings, as it had that same tribal fighting appeal.

Thank you for reading this review & I hope you take time out to watch the film (if you haven’t already)
